We are winding up the 2015 garden building season…we have a few more beds to build for folks, and then we will be harvesting our first produce before you know it! We are currently gathering contact information for those interested in gardening with Yarducopia in Anchorage, Alaska, so please follow the links in orange at the bottom of our home page to apply to garden with Yarducopia…if we can’t fit you in this year, hopefully we can next year! We are aiming for 20 new gardens per year. Usually, we will make site visits as time and weather allows in April and May, but we may be able to start some garden builds in the fall of 2015 to plant in the spring of 2016. It may be possible that an applicant does not have a good space for a full Yarducopia garden (too shady or small, for example) In this case we will suggest alternatives, such as container gardening or joining the program as a volunteer in another garden instead. We usually begin building gardens by May, and keep building them throughout the summer.
To put the ‘community’ in this form of community gardening, we hold events to bring all of our gardeners and supporters together. There are spring kick-off party/trainings with a short introduction to sheet mulch gardening and composting techniques in the spring, garden tours in the summer, and fall harvest parties – email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information! Stay tuned for dates!
